For many years, metal braces were the only teeth straightening option and often only associated with teenagers. But times have changed. Thanks to modern technology, we have seen tremendous progress in the field of orthodontics. As a result, multiple options are now available when it comes to correcting a misaligned jawline and straightening teeth – all of which are suitable for teenagers and adult patients alike.
Clarity Braces – Form and Function
One of our most popular orthodontic options among adult patients are clarity braces, also known as ceramic braces. Clarity braces are tooth-coloured brackets fixed to the front of the teeth. An archwire is then threaded through each tooth. The translucent brackets and wire work together to gradually apply pressure and align the teeth in their new position. This is a gentle and gradual process over several months. For patients with more severe misalignments, your orthodontist may fit very small elastic bands (known as O-rings or ligatures) around the ceramic brackets. These bands apply additional pressure to the jaw to ensure it moves the teeth to the desired position. Although they work similarly to modern metal braces, clarity braces are more discreet as they have smoother brackets with more rounded edges, meaning they lie flatter against the teeth and are more comfortable (and much less bulky!). Gone are the days of chunky, uncomfortable and restrictive braces… Hurrah! In fact, clarity braces are the next best thing for patients who are not suited for removable orthodontics such as Invisalign clear aligners. They’re durable, effective and discreet. Even while wearing your clarity brace, you can be confident in your new smile.
Clarity Braces – Effective and Durable Orthodontics
Metal braces have traditionally been the go-to choice when it comes to durable orthodontics, but clarity braces are a very close competitor! Clarity braces are strong, reliable, stain-resistant (we’ve covered this in more detail below), efficient, accurate, smooth and low-profile for added comfort. Not only are they an effective solution for straightening crooked teeth, but patients can also feel confident throughout the treatment (while the brace is worn) knowing their orthodontics are secure. The chance of any damages to the brackets or archwire are minimal.
Clarity Braces – Discoloration and Staining
As you now know, clarity braces consist of tooth-coloured brackets, making them a discreet orthodontic treatment option. But because they are translucent, many patients worry their clarity brace will stain. But don’t fret! As long as you have a good oral hygiene routine, there is no need to worry about staining. You will have appointments approximately every eight weeks while wearing your braces. During your appointment, your orthodontist will adjust the brackets and wires to ensure they are continuously working together and applying the necessary pressure to move your teeth. Your orthodontist will also assess the colour of your teeth and brace and, if required, replace the clear elastic ties (ligatures) to avoid the appearance of discolouration. We advise patients to avoid dark-coloured food and drink such as tea, coffee, red wine and curry as prolonged contact with them can give the impression of discoloration. But, as we said earlier, so long as patients maintain a thorough teeth cleaning regime to remove any food debris, the possibility of staining is significantly reduced. We advise brace-wearers to brush, floss, and rinse with mouthwash not just twice a day (once in the morning and again in the evening), but after snacks and meals, too. This will keep your teeth and braces squeaky clean!
Clarity Braces – Finance your Smile
Here at Orthodontics For You, we want everyone to have the opportunity to undergo orthodontic treatment, which is why we offer both private and NHS treatment services. Private patients can spread the cost of their treatment over a period of time by taking advantage of our payment plans. Your dedicated patient co-ordinator will talk you through your specific needs and related costs after your initial consultation – book now (it’s free!). Clarity or clear ceramic braces are available with Orthodontics For You from £2,600.00 for adult patients. This is a guide price based on a single arch (lower or upper) and an average level of treatment complexity. If both arches require treatment, the cost will be higher, but not usually double.
