Everything You Need To Know About Teeth Whitening

At Orthodontics For You we offer a variety of dental treatments to help our patients feel confident about themselves and, most importantly, their smile.  We all know what it feels like to want a straighter, whiter smile – it builds confidence and makes us feel happier in ourselves, wouldn’t you agree?  At Orthodontics For You, our friendly team of specialists are on hand to help our patients feel as comfortable and as confident as possible, one smile at a time!  That’s why in addition to the many teeth straightening treatments available at our Bromsgrove and Solihull practices including ceramic braces, modern metal braces, hidden lingual braces and Invisalign to name a mere few, we also offer patients a polanight teeth whitening treatment once their teeth straightening journey is complete – it’s painless, affordable and oh so popular!.

Teeth Whitening – How it Works

Step 1: Once the dental straightening process is complete and the brace has been removed, we offer patients an assessment of their teeth to check if our polanight teeth whitening in Birmingham will work for them, and we’re pleased to say that most people we treat are suitable – this is the last step in our patients’ journey with Orthodontics For You and it is completely optional, but we do find that customers are usually so pleased with the results from their brace that they want to show off their teeth to their full potential!

Step 2: We take impressions of the teeth using a thick liquid material (such as alginate or polyvinylsiloxane) which we dispense into a U-shaped impression tray that fits into your mouth. Once we have impressions of your teeth, we can then create custom made trays (similarly shaped to retainers) which are made totally unique for each individual patient.  The trays have specific reservoirs for each tooth meaning the bleaching gel is evenly distributed across your teeth and prevents any irritation to the gums.

Sep 3: Once your bespoke teeth whitening trays have been created, you can take these home to begin your treatment and you don’t need to return to our orthodontic practice… convenient, eh?  You will also be issued with a set of syringes and whitening gel made from carbamide peroxide which gently bleaches your teeth to ultimately lighten the colour.

You only have to wear the trays at night whilst you sleep with the gel taking just 5 to 14 days to lift your teeth to the desired shade – perfect for patients looking for a fast result!  Before you get into bed, you will need to use the syringes to distribute the whitening gel into your ‘tray’ before putting this in your mouth and keeping it there whilst you sleep… think of it as wearing a retainer to bed, only the retainer’s job is to make your teeth whiter!

Step 4: Clean your teeth and mouth tray the following morning – that’s it!  And don’t worry about swallowing the gel as it is safe (the by-products of the ingredients when broken down is largely oxygen – the by-product that allows for the whitening process – and water).

Teeth Whitening – Sensitive Teeth

If you are asking, “How long does teeth sensitivity last after whitening?” we have good news for you. With Orthodontics For You, our polanight teeth whitening solution has a unique blend of soothers, conditioners and high water content to assist in reducing sensitivity.

With Orthodontics For You, our polanight teeth whitening solution has a unique blend of soothers, conditioners and high water content to assist in reducing sensitivity.

There are lots of teeth whitening kits available today that can cause severe sensitivity to your teeth and gums which some might find unbearable, but polanight is very different!  Containing an extremely effective desensitising agent which acts on nerve endings within the tooth, polanight gel cuts off pain sensors in order to protect the nerves – and nerve endings – in your gums.  This means that sensitivity is minimised and you can whiten your teeth in comfort… what a result!

Plus, with a uniquely high water content formula, polanight has a neutral pH which also protects your gums and the gel is able to release its full whitening capabilities without causing any damage to your teeth.

Teeth Whitening – Tell Me More

  • The teeth whitening gel is spearmint flavour – it’s fresh, long lasting and tastes quite nice too
  • The formation of plaque and tooth decay is significantly reduced during treatment.
  • The majority of people who get their teeth whitened say they do so to help boost their self-confidence and to gain the self-esteem that comes naturally from a beautifully white smile.
  • Teeth whitening should only ever be administered by a dental professional so if you’re considering this type of treatment, please get in touch with us or register for your complimentary consultation today.
  • As we mentioned earlier, polanight teeth whitening gel is made from carbamide peroxide whereas most other teeth whitening solutions are made with hydrogen peroxide. In terms of strength, 3% of carbamide peroxide is equal to 1% of hydrogen peroxide.
  • Polanight teeth whitening treatment, administered by the dental professionals at Orthodontics For You, is a safe and simple way to whiten your teeth.
